Adam Hills is asking for Celebrities to rally round and support Variety - the Children’s Charity.

LONDON, UK / AGILITYPR.NEWS / July 28, 2021 / A host of Celebrities including Keith Lemon, Vic Reeves, David Walliams, Brian May, Sir Cliff Richard, Jeremy Vine, Heather Small, Dame Shirley Bassey, Jason Manford, All Saints, Lorraine Kelly and Adam Hills himself are generously donating some of their favourite items towards Variety’s online auction, which launches today, in a bid to raise funds severely depleted by the coronavirus. www.charitystars.com/variety-celebrity-auction

The auction, held in partnership with Charitystars.com, will be lead by well-known comedian and radio and television presenter, Adam Hills.

Adam Hills said:

"This endeavour combines two of the most satisfying things in my life – clearing out my wardrobe and helping others. I’m so honoured to be a part of it and have high hopes that it can become a regular event. "

The pandemic has had a devastating impact on the sick, disabled and disadvantaged children across the UK that Variety helps. Many more children are now living in poverty, while the loss of support services has taken a severe toll.

Demand for Variety’s services have soared. At the same time, with live fundraising events now cancelled, the charity’s income streams have dwindled dramatically. Proceeds from the auction will go towards ‘plugging’ this funding gap, so that Variety can continue to be there for children who need support – now more than ever.

Notes to Editors:

Variety believes that neither disability nor disadvantage should prevent any child or young person from realising their full potential. Since being founded in October 1949, the charity has supported over one million disabled and disadvantaged children.

When statutory funding cannot adequately meet a child’s needs, Variety steps in. To ensure that it can respond specifically to the needs of each individual child, Variety provides support in the following four ways:

• Through the provision of specially adapted, accessible transport in the form of their famous Sunshine Coaches, making it possible for children and young people to get out and about so that they can learn practical life skills and enjoy trips out to places they otherwise couldn’t get to;

• Through the provision of customised wheelchair grants, helping to increase mobility and improve independence;

• Through the provision of specialist equipment grants which support a child’s development or ability to self-care; and

• Through memorable experiences in the form of the Variety Great Days Out programme which provides educational and fun day trips.

Variety launched in the United States in 1928, and now operates in 13 countries across the world (United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Jersey, Republic of Ireland, France, Israel, Japan, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia, Barbados and Eastern Caribbean), helping children at the local community level.

Variety is a registered charity in England and Wales (209259) and Scotland (SC038505)
