Former Lehman Brothers Chairman Discusses the Economic Impact of Coronavirus

Author and Former Chairman of Lehman Brothers joins Bloomberg and Palm Beach County Business Development Board to talk economic solutions

AUSTIN, TEXAS [April 3, 2020] – As more people hunker down in their homes and await the coronavirus pandemic to subside, Michael Ainslie, former Chairman at Lehman Brothers and author of the business memoir “A Nose for Trouble,” joined Carol Massar and Jason Kelly to discuss the economic impact and market challenges from the coronavirus outbreak. This interview comes ahead of Ainslie’s speaking engagement on Friday, April 3 at 2 p.m. EST with the Business Development Board (BDB) of Palm Beach, Fla. During the BDB Econic Forecast teleconference, Ainslie will talk with other community leaders about solutions for the local fiscal and health crisis.

“The loss of jobs and the loss of income being experienced all over this country is staggering … We have to take government and local action which includes extending unemployment insurance and rescuing businesses,” suggested Ainslie.

“From a fiscal point of view, the government’s response is similar to that of the 2008 financial crisis. There were many mistakes in how the government responded to the market crash,” continued Ainslie. “However, this time, the impact on individuals is so much greater and happening more quickly. We all have to act fast.”

Ainslie will be joining Former United States Senator George LeMieux at the BDB Economic Forecast to discuss economic and healthcare solutions. Ainslie will also speak about his lessons learned as a business leader during the 2008 financial crisis —an experience he shared with Massar and Kelly of Bloomberg news.

Palm Beach County residents can RSVP to the free BDB Economic Forecast teleconference here. To hear the full Bloomberg podcast interview with Ainslie, visit Bloomberg’s website
