Two Endowed Scholarships Established by Hood Alumna, Board of Associates Member in Memory of Parents

FREDERICK, MD / AGILITYPR.NEWS / February 26, 2021 / The Audrey Field Parrott Endowment for the Language Arts and the Benjamine Cawley Parrott Endowment for the Sciences have been established by alumna and member of the Board of Associates Cheryl D. Parrott, M.A.’06, H’09.

The Audrey Field Parrott Endowment for the Language Arts, which was established in memory of Parrott’s mother, shall be used to provide scholarships for students who have a record of high academic achievement, are in need of financial assistance and who are majoring in foreign languages. The first award will be made during the 2022-23 academic year.

The second scholarship, the Benjamine Cawley Parrott Endowment for the Sciences, was established in memory of Parrott’s father, and shall be awarded to graduate students who have a record of high academic achievement, are in need of financial assistance and who are enrolled in the biological or physical sciences or engineering. The first award will be made during the 2021-22 academic year.

April Boulton, Ph.D., dean of the Graduate School, reflected on the award, saying, “This new support will help us attract and retain the populations often absent in STEM fields—marginalized students from low-income backgrounds. We are excited to bolster the diversity in our STEM programs with this generous award from a long-time, loyal alumna, Cheryl Parrott.”

In addition to the two endowed scholarships, Parrott also supports the Graduate School through an Outstanding Student Award in counseling. Parrott earned a graduate degree in thanatology from Hood in 2006 and spoke at the College’s 2009 commencement ceremony. In that same year, Parrott joined the College’s Board of Associates. She lives in Middletown with her husband, The Reverend Jack N. Anderson.
