BIRMINGHAM, UK / AGILITYPR.NEWS / October 11, 2022 / Male victims of domestic violence like Johan Rylander often keep silent because they don't have enough courage to speak up. He says, "As a male victim of intimate partner violence, nobody believes you when you dare to tell the truth." When he finally felt brave enough to go to the police, they asked him, "and what did you do first?". After that, he never contacted the police again.
Every day, people are abused by their partners. And every single year, many of them die. Domestic violence has no gender, and no one should wait as long as 25 years like Johan to receive help.
Now Johan is a Certified International Public Speaker and has made it his mission to raise awareness of domestic abuse. He is also a Certified International Mindset and Empowerment Coach helping men who have been victims of domestic violence to find their lost confidence.
In a new book called "In The Midst of Chaos", whose lead author is Mildred D. Muhammad, the ex-wife of the D.C. Sniper; Johan remembers all those dark and ice-cold nights in wintertime when he had managed to escape and spent the nights in a freezing car. He did his best to spare his children from witnessing physical violence. He tells how his wife took his wallet with all his money, and it was full of his documents. To get them back, he had to ask her repeatedly and promise to do things she wanted him to do. It was a harrowing experience, but it made him stronger. Johan now hopes that he will be able to create a change so that all victims of domestic violence, regardless of their gender or sexual orientation, are seen.
Mildred D. Muhammad’s highly-charged collaborative book with twelve co-authors aims to empower readers by encouraging them to recognise abuse in their relationships, set goals to change the situation, and take the first steps toward leaving their abusive partners. Its publisher is Birmingham-based The Book Chief Publishing in the UK.
Johan and Mildred’s fellow co-authors of this new spellbinding book include Dionne Joi, Leda Watts, Yolanda Bibbs, Alison Ward, Tynia Canada, Jacqueline Miller, Rene' Michelle, Wendy Kier, Karen Ferguson, Karen Ward and Ana Williams.
Mildred said. "This powerful collection of compelling first-person stories is about resilience, courage, and strength. I am humbled and honoured to bring these stories to the rest of the world. We should all read these important stories to understand domestic abuse and violence better and help those who suffer in silence. The book is planned to be released in October in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month."
