SAN FRANCISCO / AGILITYPR.NEWS / November 17, 2022 / Dan Klitsner’s New Game, The Bop It Button, Will Benefit the San Francisco LightHouse’s Enchanted Hills Camp and Other Community Programs
Today the San Francisco LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired is announcing an exciting partnership with fellow San Franciscan and original Bop It inventor Dan Klitsner. The charitable-giving campaign called Bop It For Good will benefit the LightHouse which promotes independence, self-reliance and equality of interaction for people who are blind or have low vision throughout The Bay Area since 1902.
Klitsner, whose invention studio is just a hop, skip and a jump from LightHouse headquarters on Market Street, just launched his newest game, The Bop It Button, a fun and deceptively challenging 1 button version of the classic Bop It that devoted Bop It fans and families have been anxiously anticipating for the holidays. For every Bop It Button purchased, one will be donated to the LightHouse’s community programs including Enchanted Hills Camp for the Blind located in Napa Valley. Enchanted Hills Camp is undergoing renovations after a fire destroyed more than a dozen structures five years ago. Cash donations are also being accepted. Bop It has been a go-to game within the LightHouse recreational programming for both youth and adults who are blind or have low vision since the Bop It first came on the market 25 years ago. It is a uniquely interactive game that levels the playing field whether you are blind or sighted, and it is that exact synergy that helped forge this partnership.
“Toys and games that can be played on equal terms by both blind and sighted people are hard to find,” said LightHouse CEO Sharon Giovinazzo. “We are just so excited to be chosen by Bop It for Good as its first beneficiary.”
The launch of Bop It for Good by Dan and his wife, Alicia, also commemorates the 25th anniversary of Bop It!, the iconic 90’s toy that continues to be on everyone’s holiday wish lists. Those who visit bopitforgood.com on Giving Tuesday (November 29) will have the opportunity to make a monetary donation to support the LightHouse Little Learners program, which Dan and Alicia will personally match.
“After all of the success of Bop It, we wanted to give back, and we knew that all of our fans over these last 25 years would get behind us 100%,” said Dan Klitsner. “LightHouse was the perfect first partner for Bop It for Good. Through the years Bop It has been extremely popular for kids who are blind because they can play it just as well as kids who can see. We’ve heard many stories of lifelong friendships starting with a game of Bop It between blind and sighted players.”
The Bop It! Button (MSRP $25) is available for purchase at adaptations.org, BopItforGood.com or Amazon with an expected delivery in early December.
