BAAR, SWITZERLAND / AGILITYPR.NEWS / November 27, 2025 / SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 170.25, detailing a midyear update from the Apparel and Footwear International RSL Management (AFIRM) Working Group on the 2025 Restricted Substances List (RSL).
The AFIRM Working Group is an industry forum made up of major softline brands collaborating to drive safety in apparel and footwear supply chains. They published Version 10.1 of the 2025 RSL on October 31, 2025. Most requirements remain unchanged; however, there are revisions to the scope of applicable per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and their test methods, as well as updates to the ultraviolet (UV) absorber/stabilizer list and limits and one volatile organic compound has been removed.
Several updates have been introduced to streamline testing procedures and maintain alignment with changing global regulations.
Guidance on the AFIRM RSL list has also been revised to align with the Version 10.1 updates, to assist brands, manufacturers and suppliers in reviewing and amending testing protocols, as well as enabling collaboration across the supply chain.
SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 170.25 includes key highlights of Version 10.1 of the RSL.
Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 170.25 for more details.
