AMPP Introduces Cathodic Protection Field Techniques Course

HOUSTON, TX AND PITTSBURGH, PA / AGILITYPR.NEWS / October 14, 2024 / The Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP), the global authority in materials protection and performance, has announced the launch of its newest educational program, Cathodic Protection (CP) Field Techniques. This two-day, immersive course introduces personnel to essential corrosion testing methods and real-world field techniques. Whether new to the corrosion industry or looking to enhance practical skills, this course offers a comprehensive foundation to begin or advance a career in CP.


Participants will engage in classroom instruction and hands-on training in a controlled field setting. Topics covered include half-cell calibration checks, structure-to-electrolyte measurements, rectifier measurements, electrical isolation testing, and more. Students will gain confidence in corrosion data collection and testing techniques through this balanced mix of theory and practice.


The course is tailored for a range of professionals, including:

  • New field technicians
  • CP managers
  • Sales personnel distributing CP equipment or services
  • Skill assessors and auditors
  • Field equipment repair technicians
  • Engineers supporting corrosion operations

Course Features:

  • Practical Field Experience: Training on in-ground pipelines, testing stations, and other critical equipment.
  • Comprehensive Learning Objectives: From operating multimeters to performing soil resistivity tests, participants will leave with various applicable skills.
  • Earn Professional Development Hours (PDHs): Completing the course grants 16 PDHs, helping professionals maintain their certifications.


This course is available on the schedule now, with the first session being held in Houston, Texas, from Nov. 13–14. Rain or shine, participants will engage in dynamic field exercises designed to prepare them for real-world corrosion challenges.
