LOUISVILLE, KY / AGILITYPR.NEWS / August 05, 2020 / After being diagnosed with a visual impairment, it can be hard to know where to start. You’re suddenly on a journey you never prepared for. That’s where Getting Started: A Guide for People New to Vision Loss comes in. This important, free, booklet was produced with funding provided by the Reader’s Digest Partners for Sight Foundation. The guide helps people who are new to vision loss by providing hope, and actionable steps they can take to get the resources they need.
“We hope this guide helps people know they are not alone,” said Olaya Landa-Vialard, the director of the APH ConnectCenter. “We are here to help you learn about living and navigating this new way of life. We hope you will learn valuable information and gain the knowledge you need to get started on your journey.”
The Getting Started guide includes a wide variety of information including: Information about the specialized eye professionals you may see; how to connect with support groups and other resources; Tips for home modifications and safety; and, technology and product tips.
Getting Started will be available in print form and also online as an accessible PDF. The guidebook is available in both English and Spanish.
