Best of British –1973 Jaguar E-Type V12 Roadster & 2002 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Volante for Sale With H&H Classics at Their September 16th Live Auction Online

UNITED KINGDOM / AGILITYPR.NEWS / September 02, 2020 / The next H&H Classics Live Auction Online on September 16th includes two wonderful examples of the best of British automotive design and engineering – a 1973 Jaguar E-Type V12 Roadster with just 49,900 miles from new for an estimate of £80,000 - £90,000 and a 2002 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Volante with only 14,700 miles from new for an estimated £35,000 - £40,000.

The Jaguar is based in Cambridgeshire for pre-sale viewing and has had four previous owners. This most eye-catching of home-market Series 3 E-Types is finished in the original combination of Primrose Yellow bodywork and Black leather upholstery.

Manufactured in 1973 and first road registered on 3rd May 1974, the E-Type initially served as a demonstrator for Lathams of Loughborough. Since then it has had just four keepers to date; the second one of whom, a Group Captain, retained the car from 1976 to 2010.

It is offered with a large collection of MOTs which endorse the low mileage of 49,900, it also comes with the distinctive registration '18 VT', which has adorned the Jaguar since at least 1976. Other inclusions are a full set of weather equipment and hood cover; the car's original book pack and wallet; Heritage Certificate; bill for £5,195 relating to the Group Captain's purchase; pair of keys; wheel tools and tool roll. Treated to some £5,100 worth of servicing and mechanical fettling last year, it is only being offered for sale because of the seller’s planned emigration.

From birth the E-Type was available as a Fixed-Head Coupe or two-seat Roadster. For 1966, a 2+2 version of the Coupe was added to the range that was 9in longer and featured a more vertical windscreen. The Series 3 cars were introduced in 1971, all but a handful of which were fitted with Jaguar's new 5.3-litre V12 engine. The original (short) wheelbase was discontinued, and the revised car offered only as Roadster (now based on the longer 2+2 floorpan) or 2+2 Coupe.

Production of the Series 3 model continued until 1975, when the range was superseded by the XJS; by which time some 15,000 V12-engined examples had been produced - most of which were exported to North America. Series 3 E-Types are readily identified from their predecessors by the large cross-slatted radiator grille, flared wheel arches, wider track and V12 badge on the rear.

2002 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Volante

One owner and 14,700 miles from new

Estimate £35,000 - £40,000

Based in Lancashire for viewing, this wonderful Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Volante was supplied new by JCT600 Ltd Aston Martin of Leeds to its one and only keeper. Finished in Antrim Blue with Parchment leather upholstery, it has covered a warranted 14,700 miles from new with no fewer than ten main dealer services.

Damian Jones of H&H says: “This is an exceptional example that would grace any marque collection.”

Introduced at the March 1999 Geneva Salon, the Aston Martin DB7 Vantage eschewed its predecessor's 3228cc supercharged straight-six for a 5935cc 48-valve, all-alloy V12 that developed 420bhp and 400lbft. Available with a choice of six-speed manual, five-speed automatic or (later) Touchtronic semi-auto transmission, the DB7 Vantage could be had in Coupe or Volante (Convertible) guises. The latter had its top speed limited to 165mph but could reportedly accelerate from 0-60mph in 5.1 seconds. To cope with such performance, the 2+2-seater's structure, suspension and brakes were all upgraded. Asked to rework his masterpiece, stylist Ian Callum added a reshaped back bumper, more pronounced sills, combined driving lamps / indicators and horizontal bars to the radiator grille. Priced at £104,486 in 2002, Aston Martin's flagship soft-top came with central locking, electric windows / mirrors, traction control, ABS, air-conditioning, front airbags, alarm / immobilizer and 18-inch alloy wheels as standard. Notable as the marque's first V12 production model, the DB7 Vantage lasted until 2003 by which time some 2,056 Volantes had been made.
