UNITED KINGDOM / AGILITYPR.NEWS / June 13, 2022 / Students from Bishop Perowne CE College who are starring in the school’s upcoming production of Matilda were recently treated to a visit from Tom Muggeridge, the resident dance captain for the cast of 'Matilda the Musical' in London’s West End.
Having trained with the English National Ballet, Tom has performed in musicals such as Wicked, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, and West Side Story.
Throughout the workshop with the Bishop Perowne students, Tom worked on various numbers in the show giving direction and choreography, and also added in dance moves that he and his colleagues perform in the Matilda the Musical show.
The students also recently enjoyed a visit from Gillian Hipp from Hereford College of Arts who taught them ariel dance moves using hoops and silks. They learnt the art of moving upside down and new movements that they can incorporate into their Matilda performance.
Celia Alexander, Subject Leader of Performing Arts at Bishop Perowne, commented:
“Tom put students through their paces and treated them as professional artists to help them appreciate the level of performance required by the cast of the West End show. Being part of our production takes a lot of commitment from the students and we are all extremely proud of the dedication that has been shown by those performing and those who are part of the backstage cast. By giving students the opportunity to learn from people like Tom and Gillian really gives them a boost, and we thank Tom and Gillian for their expert guidance – our students thoroughly enjoyed both sessions and learnt a lot.
“Due to the pandemic, this is the first full-on school production we have been able to do for a couple of years, and the students can’t wait to perform in front of an audience.”
Bishop Perowne’s performances of Matilda take place at 7pm between Monday 27th and Wednesday 29th June, and families from the local community are welcome to attend. Tickets are priced at £6 per adult and £4 per student/concession and are available to purchase from the school’s finance office in the main reception.
All the money raised from ticket sales will be used to support the school’s future performing arts activities.
