UNITED KINGDOM / AGILITYPR.NEWS / August 31, 2021 / In 2020, Leicestershire based charity, The Bodie Hodges Foundation, shared exciting news with their supporters and community about a large investment they were to receive from a private investor, to support core costs and the purchase of a building which was set to become the home of the Foundation. Sadly, due to the pandemic, they are no longer able to secure this funding opportunity.
This of course comes as a devastating blow to the charity, who have always had an immensely strong vision which has only become stronger since this opportunity was presented. As a result of their ambitions, The Bodie Hodges Foundation have made the brave decision to go ahead with the purchase of the building, making it the Centre of their child bereavement community to continue the development of the incredibly important work they do to support families bereaved of a child.
The current owners of the building - who have been incredibly supportive throughout the last few months - have agreed to support the charity further by allowing them to rent the building for 2 years, in order to raise the all important funds to purchase the property.
Donna Hodges, CEO of The Bodie Hodges Foundation, explains what the building will mean to the charity: ‘It is hard to put into words what it means to us as a charity to be able to launch a capital appeal to purchase Bodie’s House. Our vision to create a child bereavement community within Leicestershire is now within sight and as a charity, it means that we can offer more support to grieving families and offer ways that we can come together and support one another. We are also really excited about increasing our offer to children and young people, as well as getting involved in creative ways to grieve’.
Today the charity have launched a capital appeal to raise £450,000 over the next 2 years and pledge for your help. About Us
THE BODIE HODGES FOUNDATION
Our History
The Bodie Hodges Foundation was set up by Nick and Donna Hodges following the death of their son Bodie in 2012. Their lived experience is that being a bereaved parent is isolating and that the support available following the sudden or unexpected death of a child is minimal. The charity has continuously developed, and now provides a range of services that support the whole family.
In the beginning, the focus was on raising funds to buy a holiday home and in 2016 the purchase of Bodie’s Boathouse on Tallington Lakes was completed. A one-week stay is offered to families who live in the East Midlands and within 3 years of the death of their child of any age. The impact that this stay gave families highlighted the need to Donna and Nick to implement more services and to work on more projects to support families bereaved of a child. The charity designed and produced Bodie’s Treasured Memory Bags, based on how their daughter grieved and with professional endorsement these are now provided nationally free of charge to siblings. With another focus on fundraising, we then moved to support families in the first year to 18 months with face to face early emotional therapeutic bereavement support and in October 2019 Bodie’s Bereavement Service was launched.
