Butchers at Darts Farm raises £2k in sausage sales for Devon Air Ambulance

Local business launches new sausage flavour competition with top bangers to be judged at Exeter Food Festival.

Last year, sausage fans across Devon shared their inspired sausage flavour combinations with a panel of prestigious judges in the hopes their recipe would be made into the winning banger.

Judges awarded The Devon Devil champion status by a select panel of judges from Darts Farm, including celebrity chef, Michael Caines. The winning sausage was made with local pork, Green Valley Cider and Quickes Mature Cheddar.

With £1 from every pound in weight sold at Dart’s Farm, Topsham, and Fermoys, Newton Abbot, going to Devon Air Ambulance, the delicious Devon Devils have so far raised a staggering £2,000 for the charity. The impressive sum will be awarded to the charity at Exeter Food Festival in May.

Now The Butchers at Darts Farm is inviting sausage fans to share their flavour combinations once more for the chance to win a year’s supply of the winning sausages.

This time a selection of shortlisted sausages will be sampled and judged by members of the public at this year’s Exeter Food Festival between Saturday 4th May to Monday 6th May.

Master Butcher of The Butchers of Darts Farm, Alastair David, said:

“The Devon Devil has been a great success and we would like to thank all of our customers who have supported this wonderful charity. We are excited to see what flavours are put forward for visitors to try at the Exeter Food Festival.”

Last year’s head judge, Michael Caines MBE, will also be contributing his thoughts to the selection of the top bangers. He said:

“The sausage competition has been such a great hit in the past and is something that anyone can get involved in. Not only is it a fun competition for all the family, entrants become great supporters of a very worthy charity that saves many lives each year. It is fantastic to be involved and it is exciting to see what creative combinations entrants will come up with.”

Caroline Creer, Fundraising and Communications Director at Devon Air Ambulance, says:

‘It’s incredible that last year’s competition raised £2,000 for Devon’s Air Ambulances - a huge thanks to everyone who supported it. We’re delighted that The Butchers at Darts Farm and Michael Caines is supporting us once more with a popular and fun competition, and we’re looking forward to seeing which flavour combinations we receive - and perhaps sampling the shortlisted entries…’

If you’d like to enter then visit the Devon Air Ambulance competition page at http://bit.ly/Sausage2019 or pop into Dart’s Farm in Topsham, or Fermoys in Newton Abbot and pick up an entry form. Be sure to submit your entry before 9am on Wednesday 1st May.
