CPSC updates mandatory safety standard for infant and cradle swings

BAAR, SWITZERLAND / AGILITYPR.NEWS / May 14, 2026 / SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 067.26, reporting on the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)’s updated safety standard for infant and cradle swings.

On April 20, 2026, the CPSC issued a direct final rule revising the mandatory federal safety standard in 16 CFR Part 1223 by incorporating ASTM F2088-25, replacing the previous ASTM F2088-24 standard. The regulation is established under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA), which requires the Commission to maintain safety standards for durable infant and toddler products.

Key updates in ASTM F2088-25 include the introduction of a new visibility test for front warning labels to ensure hazard warnings remain clearly visible to caregivers under normal conditions of use. The revised standard also strengthens warning language addressing suffocation hazards linked to sleep in infant swings, including explicit statements that the product is not intended for sleep and instructions to remove a sleeping infant immediately.

Additional changes include the requirement for a separate front warning label and increased prominence of restraint warnings – from ‘ALWAYS use restraints’ to ‘ALWAYS USE RESTRAINTS’ – to improve visibility and emphasize fall prevention.

The updated standard takes effect on July 25, 2026.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 067.26 highlights the new labeling and warning requirements introduced in ASTM F2088-25 and their implications for compliance.

Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 067.26 for more details.
