WHAT: Join us for this two-day Farmers Tax and Accounting Virtual Conference where agribusiness experts tackle pressing issues such as:


DAY 1: November 8, 2022 (8:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon PST)


Tax Update will cover regarding the recently enacted “Inflation Reduction Act.” Also, the session addresses several recent cases and IRS developments of importance to practitioners. Selected like-kind exchange issues involving the definition of real estate are covered as well as the problem presented when there is an imbalance of Section 1245 and/or 1250 property in the exchange. The session also briefly addressed the uniform capitalization rules as applied to ag clients as well as the proper reporting of farmland and building lease income and the issue of self-rents. 


Estate Planning / Succession Planning will cover: Considerations of each; size, family dynamics. Also, examples of different scenarios for exit strategies; M&A best practices in getting the deal done and post-close integrations; Business strategy ideas.


AG Tax Credits will cover employee retention credits; solar tax credits; carbon credits, energy credits (i.e. bio fuel, ethanol), work opportunity tax credits, focus on implementation and research and development (R&D) 


Funding Programs will explore What to do and how to evaluate if you are in the right programs; USDA Programs (federal); PG&E programs and CDFA programs (state)

Policy Update will cover this informative session on: Policy update – recent/pending legislation; Farmer incentives/opportunities around the carbon market; Current and pending regulatory issues impacting farmers; and Ag advocacy and the “long game” – what issues are dormant that farmers need to be aware of?


Regulatory Update will cover ESG reporting overview; Sustainability farming; Timeline; Banking and Data capturing.


AG Economy and Lending Update


Implementing the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) in the Central Valley; Perspectives from a Water Lawyer and District Manage will cover learning objective that include: Definitions of key terms of art related to SGMA; Basic understanding of SGMA requirements; Understanding the role of the state, local districts, and individual landowners with SGMA implementation; Understanding the impact of SGMA on land values; and the General picture of the costs to the marketplace.


Co-Ops will explore: Overview of types of co-ops ; Exempt vs. Non-exempt; Benefits for growers by selling to existing co-ops; Business strategy ideas and How to create a co-op.
