Casino Del Sol and Tucson Summer Pro League Celebrate Youth, Mentorship, and Tribal Internship Program on Opening Day

TUCSON, AZ / AGILITYPR.NEWS / June 09, 2025 / The Tucson Summer Pro League for Kids (TSPL) tipped off its 2025 season on Saturday, June 7, at The Gregory School, bringing together hundreds of young athletes, families, and community partners for a day filled with basketball, mentorship, and celebration. Sponsored in part by Casino Del Sol, TSPL continues to provide children ages 10–13 with a positive, inclusive space to develop skills on and off the court.

Opening Day also showcased the Pascua Yaqui Youth Internship Program, a unique summer work experience created through a partnership between Casino Del Sol, the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, and TSPL. The initiative gives tribal youth ages 13–17 the opportunity to take on paid internships in roles such as scorekeeping, concessions, team management, and guest services—helping them build valuable leadership and workplace skills.

“We are excited to continue our partnership with such an incredible organization as the Tucson Summer Pro League,” said Jacqueline M. Martinez, Director of Community Relations at Casino Del Sol. “This long-standing relationship reflects our shared commitment to community, creating opportunities for youth and local talent. We couldn't be more honored to be a part of such a meaningful and impactful initiative.”

Founded in 2004 by Corey Williams, former Arizona Wildcat and ESPN Analyst, TSPL is designed to prioritize teamwork, personal development, and mentorship over competition. Williams emphasized the league’s mission, noting, “I am truly grateful and honored to continue our work with the support of Casino Del Sol and the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. The opportunity to work with these exceptional young people is something we always look forward to. Our league and its impact on young people in our community could not be possible without the work and support of our partners.”

Throughout the day, families filled the gym to cheer on youth athletes, while Pascua Yaqui interns gained hands-on experience behind the scenes. The energy reflected the heart of the program: community spirit, youth empowerment, and the importance of mentorship in shaping the next generation of leaders.

Casino Del Sol’s support of TSPL and the internship program demonstrates its ongoing commitment to youth development in Southern Arizona, particularly its investment in creating growth opportunities for Pascua Yaqui youth.
