LONDON, UK / AGILITYPR.NEWS / November 28, 2019 / Latin America in Buenos Aires on December 5th
Chambers and Partners, the world’s leading research and analytics firm for the legal profession, is holding on December 5th the Chambers Diversity & Inclusion Awards: Latin America in association with Ferrere Abogados and sponsored by Cervieri Monsuárez & Asociados – an evening dedicated to the trailblazers who are working towards a more inclusive and diverse legal sector in the Latin American continent.
This is the first annual edition of the awards, which will be held at the Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel & Convention Centre. The shortlists have been compiled based on the independent market research conducted by Chambers and Partners in the continent, as well as on the peer review conducted on the basis of the nominees’ submissions. A total of 35 awards will be announced during the ceremony, in celebration of legal professionals both private practice and in-house, law firms and organisations that excelled in their dedication to diversity and inclusion.
"Chambers Diversity & Inclusion has been focusing on Latin America diversity matters since 2014,” said Dee Sekar, Head of Diversity & Inclusion at Chambers and Partners. “Over the past five years, we have seen a real diversity drive across the profession. The conversation has now progressed from gender diversity to include other important areas such as race and ethnicity and LGBT+ inclusion.
In Latin America, we are starting to see the emergence of employee networks and mentoring programmes specifically for diverse lawyers and we're also impressed to see more women and minority-owned law firms in the region. Clients are demanding to see a more diverse profession and a number of in-house legal teams are actively involved in inclusion initiatives across the region.
There is also a growing importance on pro bono work carried out by law firms across Latin America. The impact this is having on fundamental human rights such as reproductive rights and indigenous rights supports the rule of law and creates a direct and positive impact on society. Chambers and Partners is proud to shine the spotlight on these trailblazers."
“I am thrilled to be attending the first edition of the D&I Awards for Latin America,” added Rhodri Holtham, Editor of Chambers Latin America. “I am delighted that Chambers will be championing the important contributions of private practitioners and GCs to the cause of diversity and inclusion. I also look forward to exploring how our rankings can become more diverse and fully reflect the Latin American legal market.”
