"Jinks nimbly glides between the light and dark on After the Fire, never dwelling too long in either extreme and that balance helps the album feel both modest and fully realized... its ease and craft are a testament to the depths of Jinks' talent as both a songwriter and a singer."
"...all the old outlaw signifiers are presented as sincere. That slight hint of self-awareness helps give The Wanting a lightness during its songs of alcoholism, loneliness, and lost love, a lightness that helps make the record a balm during tough times.

Cody Jinks again claims top positions on the charts for two consecutive weeks with his two new album releases that came back to back this month. The Wanting arrived October 18, and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Country Album Sales. The chart was dominated last week by Jinks' October 11 release, After The Fire, which marked a first-time top position on the chart for Jinks.
In their respective weeks of release, the two albums also both landed at No. 2 on Billboard's Top Country Albums and the top spot for Billboard's Americana/Folk Albums, a feat his previous album release 2018's Lifers also held.
After The Fire and The Wanting are the first offerings from Jinks' own label, Late August Records. Expect more surprises as he also posted news that he is heading back to the studio this December.
Saving Country Music proposes that "the albums (give) Jinks' fans a double dose of music, and allowing him to do what very few artists have done in country music history - top the charts with different albums on successive weeks."
