LONDON / AGILITYPR.NEWS / October 12, 2020 / MEDIA ALERT:
Hack The Box – the leading cybersecurity and penetration testing skills training platform – has launched a new Fortress challenge developed by cybersecurity consultancy Context, part of Accenture Security.
The Fortress, created by Context, is the third Fortress to be published on Hack The Box www.hackthebox.eu, and combines a series of capture the flag (CTF) challenges. The lab is anchored around the scenario of an online business that has some severe security vulnerabilities within its IT systems. The goal is to identify and exploit these weaknesses to gain access to sensitive information and eventually, take full control of their system. This can be achieved by taking advantage of insecure practices from the development team, poor handling of sensitive information and disgruntled employees intentionally sabotaging security. To conquer the Fortress, participants will need a good understanding of web exploitation, reverse engineering, code review and Windows Active Directory.
“Having had a close partnership since Hack The Box was launched in 2017, we have used the platform as a key resource to train our own team over the past three years, and we were keen to give something back,” said Josiah Beverton, Security Delivery Consultant at Context. “In building this Fortress we have drawn on the experiences of our penetration testers in real life engagements to mirror accurate scenarios. This allows people to hone their cybersecurity skills and hopefully inspire and encourage new members of the Hack The Box community to consider a career in the field.”
Hack the Box has created one of the fastest-growing hacking communities in the world, by providing hands-on training content for those looking to begin a career within penetration testing, or IT security more broadly. Simultaneously, it also develops resources for more seasoned and experienced professionals to support the continual development of their skillset. This is all done through a unique gamified approach, making security fun and accessible to a broader and more diverse group.
“We are excited to be able to launch a new Fortress lab for the Hack The Box community of 400,000 users,” said Ian Austin, Head of Content Development at Hack The Box. “It has been a great pleasure working with the Context team for almost three years now and we are confident this new Fortress will stretch the skills and knowledge of those trying to conquer it.”
