DAN PEARCE MARKS ARMED FORCES DAY WITH POWERFUL HERTFORDSHIRE SOLO SHOW LOVE, WAR & PEACE

Acclaimed mixed media artist, Dan Pearce will mark Armed Forces Day on 29 June by unveiling a powerful new collection of work inspired by the military services for solo show, Love, War & Peace at Arkley Fine Art in Hitchin.

Pearce, who has recently been cited as “one of the UK’s most collectable, emerging artists,” is a central figure in the UK’s current Pop Art movement and his work utilises spray paint, hand-painted acrylics, 3D objects, screen-printing and collage, as well as his own photography and street art.

Love, War & Peace sees him using everyday as well as army-inspired objects to create thought-provoking pieces dedicated to celebrating and commemorating our Armed Forces, featuring peace signs made from bullet shells, butterflies, or toy soldiers, Churchill and camouflaged lions. A percentage of proceeds from the exhibition will be donated to a military charity.

Pearce explains: “I wanted to include everyday objects like glass and paper with some army influenced objects such as bullet shells, camouflage patterns and toy soldiers to create symbols and shapes that reflect the title, Love, 'War and Peace.'"

In addition to the collection, Dan has also created a one-off piece celebrating the town of Hitchin, incorporating a map of the local area and the Hertfordshire Lion.

Dan has built an enviable reputation for his work, which he describes as ‘revealing the unexpected,’ due to his unique techniques of crafting carefully created layers, to make tactile pieces that can be admired from a distance or up-close in minute detail.

He adds: “I loved creating the piece using the Hertfordshire lion, yet still keeping in line with my distinctive smashed glass wildlife collection. The original has been created incorporating a map of Hitchin instead of a standard canvas board.”

Love, War & Peace will launch on Armed Forces Day, 29th June at Arkley Fine Art and both Dan and Arkley Fine Art gallery will be making a donation to a military charity from the proceeds of the show.

Armed Forces Day is an annual event formerly known as Veterans’ Day, to commemorate the services of men and women in the British Armed Forces.

A private view will be held from 1-4 pm on 29 June, after which the exhibition will be open to the public until 17th July.
