Dublin's Historical and Cultural Heart: Stauntons on the Green

Seeking Dublin’s cultural and historical heart? You’ll find it at Stauntons on the Green, the city’s best located hotel

To truly experience a city, you must start with the perfect place to stay; fashionable and comfortable but still reflecting the city’s character, in the city centre and close to all attractions but still a haven of quiet after a busy day. Stauntons on the Green in Dublin ticks all these boxes.

Located in Dublin’s historical and cultural heart, Stauntons on the Green is steeped in over 250 years of Ireland’s cultural, political and architectural history. The elegant townhouse has been home to important historical personalities who have shaped the politics and culture of Ireland.

The stunning historic Georgian townhouse was acquired by the Irish-American philanthropist Richard Driehaus in 2017. With his love for architecture and passion for preserving historic buildings, he has seen it restored to its former glory after a two-year, multi-million Euro refurbishment. The beautiful brick façade has been repointed, the railings renovated and the light-flooded back garden has been redesigned, ready for peaceful summer evenings.

The bedrooms and common areas have retained many of their original Georgian features including fireplaces with marble mantels and artful cornicing and coving, which have been carefully restored. All 64 bedrooms have been lovingly redecorated, using elegant yet comfortable furniture reflecting the style of the building and soothing colour schemes.

The elegant décor and comfortable furniture invite you to lay back and unwind with your pick from the house library of Irish literature. On a nice day, you can take your reading outside to the peaceful back garden or, if you are staying in one of the garden rooms, your private terrace.

After a relaxing night, Staunton on the Green’s freshly made breakfast is the perfect start of a day exploring the city. Savour made-to-order dishes reaching from yoghurt and fruit to a full Irish breakfast in the bright dining room.

Get inspired by the beautiful and historic building and spend a couple of days exploring Dublin’s culture and history. You won’t have to venture far beyond the doorstep, with the highly anticipated Museum of Irish Literature, due to open in April in Newman House right next door. Here you can dive into great Irish literature with multimedia exhibitions, priceless artefacts, lectures and performances which are designed to inspire the writer in you.

The history of Newman House is intertwined with that of its neighbour Stauntons on the Green. Cardinal John Henry Newman, who is soon to be made a saint, lived in the townhouse which is now the boutique hotel when he founded the Catholic University with its iconic University Church right next door. The church is stewarded by the University of Notre Dame where Cardinal Newman’s legacy lives on in Notre Dame’s Newman Center for Faith and Reason.

Your cultural experience doesn’t end there. Within 10 minute’s walking distance you can find the National Museum, Gallery and Concert Hall, Trinity College with its famous historic library and Book of Kells as well as the Irish Whiskey Museum.

At Stauntons on the Green, you have the city right on your doorstep. At the same time, the elegant and comfortable hotel is an oasis of peace and quiet away from the bustle of the town, tucked away between St. Stephen’s Green, Dublin’s most iconic park, to the front and the beautiful Iveagh Gardens to the back, accessible through the stunning garden.

Rooms start from just $111 per night in March. To book a stay in Dublin’s best located hotel, visit www.stauntonsonthegreen.ie.
