Emil Tan joins CREST in Southeast Asia

CREST, the international not-for-profit accreditation and certification body, has announced Emil Tan as its Regional Advocate in Southeast Asia. Tan, who is the Chief Operating Officer of cybersecurity talent development company Red Alpha, will act as a champion for CREST in the region, to support members and help shape strategy. He took up his position on 8 November.


“I am absolutely honoured to be elected the Regional Advocate for Southeast Asia,” said Tan, who also founded and runs Singapore's largest cybersecurity community group, Division Zero (Div0), worked for the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and was recently seconded to the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) “I look forward to bringing the full depth of expertise and research from CREST's international ecosystem to the region, to enhance and enrich our regional cybersecurity capacity. I am excited to work closely with the CREST’s Asia Advisory Board, and other CREST accredited organisations and certified individuals, to build a vibrant and supportive cybersecurity community of practice in the region.”


His role at CREST includes promoting corporate membership and individual certification; providing guidance on local activities, initiatives or strategies; engaging with local training providers and academia; providing feedback on regional or country-specific issues and recommending potential research and development proposals.


“I am delighted to welcome Emil to this important new role in Southeast Asia,” said Rowland Johnson, President of CREST. “Emil’s knowledge, experience, energy and contacts will be of tremendous benefit to CREST members, our partners and key stakeholders in their work to support and develop the cybersecurity industry across the region. There are lots of really exciting opportunities in Southeast Asia. In Emil we have another team member in-country who is able to champion these conversations moving forward.”

He also chairs Singapore's Cyber Youth Singapore (CYS) and is a co-Founder and permanent member of the Global Cybersecurity Camp (GCC) which is an Asia-Pacific talent development programme.
