Family Health Centers Names New CEO

LOUISVILLE, KY / AGILITYPR.NEWS / August 31, 2021 / Dr. Bart Irwin, Chief Administrative Officer, to lead the Non-profit Health Center

Family Health Centers (FHC), Inc. Board of Governors announced today that Dr. Bart Irwin will be the organization’s new Chief Executive Officer. This appointment follows the retirement of Bill Wagner, July 1 of this year, who served as the organization’s CEO since 1988. Dr. Irwin, who has been serving as the interim CEO since Wagner’s departure, has been with Family Health Centers for 29 years.

Dr. Irwin joined Family Health Centers in 1992 as the Health Care for the Homeless Coordinator, later becoming the Director of homeless services at the FHC-Phoenix location. In 2005, Dr. Irwin assumed the Assistant Director position, later called the Chief Administrative Officer and remained in this role till becoming the interim CEO for FHC. Irwin’s responsibilities under the CAO positions included environment of care, grant writing, accreditation through The Joint Commission, and supervision of several service lines of the organizations. Dr. Irwin has helped implement and expand FHC’s Refugee Health Services, Dental, Health Care for the Homeless, and Behavioral Health services programs in his tenure. Dr. Irwin earned his Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Louisville’s Kent School of Social Work.

FHC’s Board of Governors conducted an extensive search for Mr. Wagner’s replacement. “The hiring of a new CEO is one of the biggest challenges boards face in an organization. We took this obligation seriously and found the right fit for FHC,” stated Sergeant Anthony Walker, Chairmen of the Board. “Dr. Irwin is a servant leader with a strong affiliative leadership style which makes him the best choice for this role.” Dr. Irwin was notified last week of his appointment, making him the third CEO in FHC’s 45-year history. “I greatly appreciate the opportunity to be Family Health Centers’ CEO”, stated Irwin, “I look forward to working with the Board and the employees to advance the Family Health Centers’ mission in Louisville Metro and surrounding areas.”
