Food Contact Ceramics and Recycled Plastics Regulated in Montenegro

BAAR, SWITZERLAND / AGILITYPR.NEWS / February 02, 2026 / SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 009.26, reporting on two separate laws published in Montenegro for ceramic and recycled plastic food contact materials (FCM).

Regulation OGM No 145/2025 on ceramic food contact articles and Regulation OGM No 145/2025 on recycled plastic food contact materials and articles were issued on December 11, 2025.

These laws align Montenegro with provisions from two pieces of EU legislation, specifically Directive 84/500/EEC on ceramics and Regulation (EU) 2022/1616 on recycled plastics.

The effective date for the two new laws was December 19, 2025, eight days after their publication in the Official Gazette of Montenegro.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 009.26 includes a useful table outlining key highlights of the ceramics regulation, specific to the migration of lead and cadmium from FCMs.

Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 009.26 for more details.
