Gear Up for Cooler Temps with a Fall Maintenance Checklist from Haller Enterprises

USA / AGILITYPR.NEWS / September 17, 2020 / Fall Homeowner Maintenance Checklist

With summer behind us and winter just around the corner, fall is the prime time for homeowners to give their houses a checkup. Haller Enterprises recommends annual fall maintenance for a home’s HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems. Ensuring the home is ready for Jack Frost will make the chilly trek towards winter, smooth sailing.

Heating and Cooling Systems

Before the snow shovels come out; homeowners should check their heating system to make sure it is working properly. This includes checking/replacing the air filter (every 90 days) and testing the heat on a mild day before it is needed. It’s also time to clean things like the chimney, fireplaces and ductwork. This cleaning will help combat allergies. Additionally, now is the time to cut back shrubs and bushes around outdoor systems and cover those systems (as long as it is not dual heating and cooling) to avoid leaves and other debris entering it.

Plumbing

Extreme cold temperatures can result in freezing pipes. Haller suggests removing hoses from outside faucets, cleaning gutters, and winterizing outdoor piping. Now is also the time to locate the home’s main water shut-off valve and confirm it is accessible.

Electrical

Fall is the perfect time to repair any outdoor electrical issues and replace batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide monitors. Homeowners should also confirm electrical meter bases are securely mounted against the house.

“According to the Farmer’s Almanac, the Mid-Atlantic should brace for cold, snow-filled weather this year,” said Aaron Becker, President of Haller Enterprises. “And while we know issues can occur at any time, we hope homeowners use these preventative tips to ultimately save money and reduce headaches due to untimely repairs.” To help provide maintenance guidance or assist with plumbing, electrical or HVAC issues, Haller Enterprises offers a contactless service called HomeXsm Remote Assist.
