Gonzo Fishing - Hooked on Hope Lands with Tales of Riverbanks, Rock n Roll and Rum Characters

UNITED KINGDOM / AGILITYPR.NEWS / April 17, 2020 / Clitheroe author James “Boo” Gilbraith has published new book Hooked On Hope as a follow-up to 2014’s Terminal Chancer.

Described as Hunter S. Thompson relocated to the River Ribble, Hooked on Hope represents a personal journey through the season fishing for salmon and sea trout.

Hope, friendship and laughter are the threads through the book that join the characters together in the same tone as Withnail & I meets Trout Bum.

The book’s focus is how we use the time we have and the importance of balance.

Humour, friendship, pathos, stupidity, music, passion, soul and a love supreme for the outdoors are the fuels that power the book.

James is also currently turning both books into podcasts and the first episode Hooked On Hope is available on Apple.

Hooked On Hope is out now, available via Amazon in paperback and Kindle editions.

Recent reviews (5* average Amazon rating):

“James Gilbraith lets us join him for a season of salmon fishing. Mainly set on his home river, the Ribble, we are taken on a rollercoaster of highs and lows, happiness and sadness but all written with great humour and well-crafted prose. This isn't a "how to" it is much better than that, it is "why?" The author explores life and friendship tied together with fishing and a musical soundtrack to his life. There aren't many fishing books that will make you laugh out loud. This one will.”

“James Gilbraith – quits his job and lets us join him for a season of chasing salmon. Mainly set on his home river, the Ribble, we are taken along with a cast of colourful characters on a rollercoaster of highs, lows, happiness and sadness but all written with great humour and well-crafted prose. This isn't a "how to" it is much better than that, it is a novel about “why”. The author explores life, self-expression, breaking away from the daily grind with his emphasis firmly on family and friendship tied together with a musical soundtrack to his life. There aren't many books that will make you laugh out loud. This one will.”

Back Cover:

“Emancipated from the drudgery of nine-to-five and buoyed by the flexibility of self-employment, Boo resolves to take his newfound freedom and use it to navigate the predictably unpredictable waters of the River Ribble, where success comes to only the most committed of anglers.

“Flanked by a colourful cast of characters, not least the eccentric and excitable Lamont, Boo enters the fishing season feeling a sense of optimism that comes with knowing that the reward is the journey rather than the destination, although he wouldn't turn his nose up at a massive Ribble salmon.”
