Haier Biomedical sets new standard for energy efficient ULT storage

SUNBURY-ON-THAMES / AGILITYPR.NEWS / May 20, 2025 / Haier Biomedical – a leader in sustainable laboratory equipment – is proud to announce the launch of its UltraECO Ultra Low Impact ULT Freezer range, combining exceptional performance with market leading energy efficiency. This new generation of freezers offers laboratories, biobanks and research institutions the ability to meet ambitious sustainability goals without compromising on sample security or operational performance.

UltraECO Ultra Low Impact ULT Freezers deliver the world’s lowest daily energy consumption for their size, as independently verified through ENERGY STAR® certification. Thanks to a new green insulation material – completely free from harmful hydrofluorocarbons – and a redesigned refrigeration system, these freezers achieve up to a 50 % reduction in energy use compared to previous models. The new compressors run at variable speeds, only providing as much cooling as needed to help maintain stable temperatures, offering remarkable precision while cutting energy waste. The advanced design reduces door opening recovery times by up to 45 %, with a redesigned pressure equalisation port allowing the door to be reopened in just 60 seconds. These improvements ensure safer sample storage, quiet operation and easier day-to-day use for busy laboratory environments. The resulting energy savings also offer significant financial advantages – leading to a return on investment in as little as six years – helping public and private sector laboratories to reduce lifetime costs as well as carbon footprints.

Harry Pomfret, Cold Product Manager at Haier Biomedical, explained: “The UltraECO Ultra Low Impact ULT Freezer range eliminates the trade-off between performance and sustainability. These freezers not only cut energy consumption in half – helping laboratories working towards LEAF (laboratory efficiency assessment framework) accreditation – they also outperform previous models in temperature recovery, noise levels and ease of use. It’s a genuine leap forward in ultra low temperature storage.”
