GENEVA, SWITZERLAND / AGILITYPR.NEWS / March 30, 2022 / SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, is reminding stakeholders that Health Canada has updated its list of product safety laboratory (PSL) test methods.

These test methods are not mandatory. Test methods are only mandatory if they are mentioned in the relevant act or regulation.

However, Health Canada does publish a list if PSL test methods to provide industry with a better understanding of how they evaluate product compliance against regulatory requirements.

In a notice published on March 10, 2022, Health Canada updated the following PSL test methods:

• Chemistry Methods

1. Method C03: Determination of Leachable Arsenic (As), Selenium (Se), Cadmium (Cd), Antimony (Sb) and Barium (Ba) in Applied Coating
2. Method C42: Determination of para-Phenylenediamine (PPD) in cosmetics and similar consumer products by GC-MS

• Mechanical Methods

1. Method M00.2: Sharp Edges
2. Method M03: Flexible Film Bags
3. Method M08: Playpens
4. Method M12.2: Cradles

• Flammability Method

1. Method F01: Flammability of Textiles
