Japan lists Class 1 PFOA-related compounds under the Chemical Substances Control Law
GENEVA, SWITZERLAND / AGILITYPR.NEWS / December 20, 2024 / SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 174.24, highlighting the specified list of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) isomers, their salts and PFOA-related compounds under the country’s Chemical Substances Control Law (CSCL) in relation to Class 1 Specified Substances.
PFOA are used in products to resist sticking, heat, water, stains and grease, and are part of the ‘forever chemicals’ family, some of which have been found to be bioaccumulative and toxic to human, animal and environmental health.
Japan added PFOA acids, isomers, their salts and PFOA-related compounds to the list of Class 1 Specified Chemical Substances under the CSCL in July 2024.
SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 174.24 includes links to Japan’s Ministerial Ordinance No. 4, which lists in full the 138 PFOA-related compounds on the Class 1 Specified Chemical Substances List.
