LONDON, UK / AGILITYPR.NEWS / November 10, 2020 / Henkel’s LOCTITE® 2400 and 2700, popular WRAS-approved thread lockers in the company’s Health and Safety range of hazard-label-free engineering adhesives, have just been relaunched with enhanced credentials. Both now include patented cure chemistry that also ensures optimum performance on anti-corrosion, zinc-flake coated fasteners and passive substrates such as stainless steel and zinc dichromate.
Zinc-flake coated fasteners are becoming a common choice over zinc-plated and chrome-based alternatives because they are more resistant to corrosion, safer to manufacture and do not carry the risk of hydrogen embrittlement than can compromise load bearing capacity. Their zinc flake coating oxidises sacrificially so that the fastener itself remains corrosion free. LOCTITE 2400 and 2700 have therefore been re-formulated to complement this technology, enabling their use for an even wider range of applications.
Adhesive thread locking is one of the most reliable and inexpensive ways to ensure that a threaded assembly remains locked and leak-proof for its entire service life. The adhesives fill the grooves between the threads and cure to a hard, thermoset plastic when exposed to active metal ions in the absence of air. Locking the threads together prevents unwanted movement or loosening of the fastener and seals the threads, preventing leakage or corrosion. Excess adhesive is easily wiped off as it remains liquid.
LOCTITE 2400 is a medium strength adhesive and 2700, its high strength counterpart. Both are designed for threaded fasteners which require occasional disassembly with standard tools. In head to head tests these products outperformed competitor products in 12 categories, particularly on cure speed and breakaway strength on zinc-flake coated steel.
Notably these benefits have been achieved without compromising any of the key properties for which these Health and Safety thread lockers are renowned. Both retain their WRAS drinking water approvals and their ability to cover the lion’s share of thread locking applications.
