LONDON / AGILITYPR.NEWS / July 07, 2020 / LONDON watchmaker William Wood can’t keep up with demand for their unique watches. Their time pieces have reached 700 customers in over 36 countries since they launched three years ago.
December 2019 saw the debut of their new Automatic dive watch range named the Valiant Collection which they have had to restock twice and are now taking orders for their third batch of production. The watches regularly feature on the must-have watch lists of men’s magazines such as GQ and Esquire and the brand has almost 40,000 social media followers.
William Wood Watches is a British sustainable luxury watch brand that upcycles firefighting materials into unique watches. The British brand was founded by Jonny Garrett over three years ago combining his love of watches and in tribute to his grandfather, William Wood who was a celebrated fire fighter in the UK.
They provide their customers with the unique experience of wearing a piece of firefighting history on their wrists starting from their repurposed fire hose straps to the beautifully designed diving and dress watch ranges that pay tribute to fire fighters internationally.
Each watch contains a part of a 1920s London Fire Brigade brass helmet melted into every crown and the straps for the latest collection are made from hand-cut British fire hose that has served and protected the UK Fire and Rescue Service for over a decade, and you can still smell the rich smokiness in the red, yellow or cargo green rubber! The latter being British Military fire hose donated by the British Armed Forces’ Defence Fire and Rescue Unit.
Jonny, the Founder says, “It hasn’t been an easy ride for most businesses during Covid-19 with demand falling significantly, but we’ve found that customers are still willing to spend money on quality products that give back to the community and that have a high sentimental value to them if they are a firefighter or if someone dear to them is. Fortunately, we’ve managed to have an increasing stream of sales over the past few months allowing us to continue to grow as a purely online business.”
“When you buy a William Wood Watch, you are not just buying a beautifully designed luxury watch but you’re also giving back to firefighting communities that really need our support now more than ever. This year so far, we have managed to raise over £8,000/$10,000 for international fire fighting charities. We also donate to firefighting charities in the UK with every sale.”
William Wood hopes to become the leading British sustainable watch brand upcycling rescue service materials.
