"This is a paradigm changer for us, and what makes the addition of an online shop so exciting is the result of a 2017 Kentucky state law amendment which allows alcoholic beverages to be delivered legally in-state, to wet counties, by local retailers," states The Wine Rack's proprietor and sommelier John Johnson. Once the new rules were in place, the store began advertising local delivery within close proximity to Frankfort Avenue, and which customers took notice of immediately. Late last year, The Wine Rack store took the simple step of setting up an order form for delivery on its website, an essential first step, and as a result of the orders generated this, the e-commerce site.

Developed in house and set up for payments through its long-standing credit card processing partner, Heartland Payment Systems, The Wine Rack is marketing the new online shop to both locals and out of towners. It carries a carefully curated selection of The Wine Rack's store inventory, which will expand in the coming months. Also, purchasing gifts is easy, as several gift sets pre-selected are offered with a standard delivery fee of $5 for locations within 5 miles of the shop, and a $10 fee applies to areas the store delivers to outside of that range. Minimum orders are $30, and the current delivery cycle is within 48 hours of the order being received. Customers may also opt for in-store pick up at no charge by inputting 40206 in the "Calculate Shipping" field, and entering the store address of 2632 Frankfort Avenue, Louisville KY 40206 as "Shipping Address." Shoppers must be 21 years of age or older, with someone at least 21 on hand to receive a delivery.
