Local care home helps 90-year-old sweethearts rekindle their love with a date night

OXFORDSHIRE / AGILITYPR.NEWS / April 23, 2024 / An Oxfordshire care home helped a married couple in their 90’s rekindle their romance with a date night at their local pub.

94-year-old Vic and 95-year-old Eileen, who moved into Rosebank Care Home earlier this year, expressed their desire to go on a date and were helped by the care home’s lifestyle team to make it happen.

The couple went to the Trout at Tadpole Bridge and shared a few drinks as they reminisced about their 64 years together.

Eileen said: “We had a lovely evening and would love to go again soon.”

The care home staff went the extra mile to make their date night special and also arranged for a bowling experience for the couple at RAF Brize Norton where Eileen won and enjoyed a hot chocolate as her winning treat.

Jasmine, a lifestyle coordinator at Rosebank Care Home said: “It was so heartwarming to see Vic and Eileen share such a special moment - their bond is incredible!

“We’re looking forward to creating many more date nights for them in the future.”

Vanessa Lavender, home manager at Rosebank Care Home said: “Just because you’ve moved into a care home, doesn’t mean you stop living your life; people living in care homes should be able to express their love and enjoy their life and Vic and Eileen are the perfect example of that.

“At Rosebank, we’re committed to enriching the lives of our residents in every way possible and being able to create such moments for them is a great pleasure.”

Vic and Eileen met each other at a fun fair more than 65 years ago where they went separately but ended up going on the merry go round together.

Before they retired, the couple lived a full and enriched life; Vic was a civil servant and served in the RAF for two years while Eileen was a happy and proud housewife.

While they have no children of their own, the couple are surrounded by their five nephews and niece.

Vic and Eileen will be celebrating their 65th ‘sapphire’ wedding anniversary next year.
