May is Museum Month in Ottawa!

OTTAWA, ONTARIO / AGILITYPR.NEWS / May 02, 2022 / The Ottawa Museum Network (OMN) is pleased to announce that Jim Watson, Mayor of the City of Ottawa, has officially proclaimed May is Museum Month in Ottawa and inviting all residents and tourists to visit our local museums.

May is Museum Month is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of museums to our community and to kick-off 2022’s summer tourism season. With so many Ontarians taking ‘staycations’ this year, museums are a vital asset to local tourism and will play a key role in Ontario’s recovery from the pandemic.

"As Mayor of the City of Ottawa, I'm proud to support our local museums and tourist destinations. I can't think of a better way for residents and visitors alike to rediscover our beautiful nation's capital than by taking in the many great museums and historic sites throughout the month of May," said Mayor Watson.

“Ottawa is extremely fortunate to have an impressive collection of community museums. Each museum has unique stories to tell—from the first Indigenous inhabitants, early settlers, agricultural history and military beginnings, to the Cold War and beyond,” said Sara MacKenzie, Executive Director of the OMN. “We encourage people to add a visit to one of our local community museums to your travel plans this spring.

May is Museum Month is a program of the Ontario Museum Association and is celebrated by Ontario’s 700+ museums, galleries, and heritage sites. It coincides with International Museum Day (#IMD2022) on May 18—a worldwide initiative of the International Council of Museums.
