Leeds and Tockwith Motorsports (TMS) racing driver, Moh Ritson, produced another solid race weekend in the Britcar Dunlop Endurance Championship, with the 16-year-old delivering two fifth-place finishes at Donington Park.

The Woodhouse Grove A-level student enjoyed a trouble-free weekend and could’ve earned his first-ever podium spot, but the TMS team was left to rue a missed opportunity after an error involving a safety car ruined the team’s chances in race one.

Following an incident at Redgate, the safety car was deployed, but, instead of it slipping in front of the race leader, it dropped directly into the path of the TRICO-sponsored Ginetta G50, which reigning Britcar champion, Sarah Moore, was driving at the time.

That error allowed the cars in front to complete their lap and join the back of the field, leaving the other cars behind the safety car and not allowed to overtake; essentially, Moh and Sarah, along with the other cars, were then a lap down through no fault of their own.

At the time of the incident, Sarah was battling for fourth position, and the team had an opportunity of winning some silverware and a spot on the podium.

Unfortunately, the luck wasn’t with Moh and Sarah; nevertheless, it didn’t affect the pair, with Moh beginning race two, his first-ever race start, and producing an excellent opening stint, before handing over to Sarah for the second-half of the race.

A buzzing Moh described the emotions of the weekend and the two new experiences, both of which will prove invaluable as his motor racing career evolves: “The car felt great all weekend, I felt very comfortable from the opening practice session, thanks to the TMS team who helped produce an amazing set-up.

“It was a shame that we couldn’t translate the speed we had for a podium in race one. In race two, I took the opening stint for the first time and loved it! I managed to get the tyres up to temperature, which meant I could be aggressive straight away, and made up a couple of positions. I also managed to avoid contact, while there was a big spin nearby which, yet again, brought out the safety car.

“Driving a Ginetta G50 behind a safety car was also a new experience, which I felt I dealt with very well. I stayed calm and focused, trying to keep the temperature in the tyres and make a clean restart.”

The Britcar championship now moves onto round five, which takes place at Oulton Park (22nd June).
