Intending to highlight the many ways in which Ottawa has approached its relationship to food throughout its history, this new exhibition entitled “Morsels of Memory: A Taste of Ottawa’s Food History” uses artifacts from three participating museums to show how Ottawa’s history has evolved, focusing on the production of food, how food brings people together and food and the Cold War.

"Morsels of Memory: A Taste of Ottawa's Food History" was developed by Carleton University’s CURA 5002 graduate students/emerging curators with mentorship from industry professionals, and support from Ottawa Museum Network member museums: Watson’s Mill, the Goulbourn Museum, and the Diefenbunker: Canada’s Cold War Museum, as well as from the City of Ottawa Archives. The exhibition will run from March 30 to April 11, 2019 during the regular hours of the City of Ottawa Archives.

“Morsels of Memory: A Taste of Ottawa’s Food History” is a pilot project for the Greater Ottawa Story Initiative, a part of the Ottawa Museum Network’s ongoing program innovation strategy for its member-museums.

Tracey Donaldson, the Chair of the Ottawa Museum Network Board said that "This is a wonderful three-fold partnership between the OMN, Carleton University, and the City of Ottawa Archives. This exhibition is an opportunity to reach a wider audience and to share history from every corner of the city’s boundaries. We look forward to it being the first of many more collaborations together.”

The Ottawa Museum Network, created as a result of the City of Ottawa's Museum Sustainability Plan in 2007, works to provide a strong voice for Ottawa's community museums, and through collaboration, to strengthen the capacity of member museums. We celebrate, reflect and share the stories of Ottawa's diverse and evolving communities and work to foster pride in heritage as well as a sense of belonging to the greater Canadian community.
