NCPC/USPTO Roll Out New and Innovative E-book as Part of Go For Real Anti-Counterfeiting Campaign

USA / AGILITYPR.NEWS / April 01, 2021 / The National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) expanded our Go For Real Anti-Counterfeiting Campaign today with the rollout of an innovative new resource for communities: the Go For Real Dupe Detector Kit.

The Dupe Detector Kit is a state-of-the-art, media-rich e-book that teaches teens and tweens about the dangers of purchasing counterfeit goods. It challenges readers to test their “Dupe Detector” skills, providing tips throughout on how to spot a real product from a fake, trivia to reinforce key concepts, and educational games and puzzles – readers can earn points toward collectible badges on the Go For Real Campaign page.

The Dupe Detector Kit includes interactive games, downloads, web links, printable handouts, and other assets for teachers and educators to use seamlessly in the classroom

or virtual learning environments. Additional teaching tools for the Go For Real Campaign, to include lesson plans, will be available at ymiclassroom.com/lesson-plans/go-for-real/.

Similarly, the Dupe Detector Kit makes it just as easy for public safety professionals, parents, and youth group leaders to share the Campaign’s messaging throughout their communities in person or online.

We will be adding even more content, including a fully interactive, virtual shopping game. Watch your email for these exciting extras coming soon!

Go For Real is starting to change attitudes and behaviors.

A recent Ipsos survey found an increase in the number of young Americans who are aware of the dangers of counterfeit.

A remarkable one in six teens who were surveyed recalled seeing or hearing at least one of 16 Go For Real ads in the past six months. products, and who say they will be more careful when shopping.

Teens and tweens surveyed who recalled seeing at least one Go For Real Campaign ad especially remembered seeing a counterfeit game controller.

And one in four teens who recalled the Go For Real Campaign talked to a friend or a family member about what they saw—the same percentage who said they learned something new about counterfeit goods. One in seven said the message they received will help them make more informed purchasing decisions.

Go For Real has been especially effective in changing minds about fake cosmetics: 90% of teens who saw the Campaign ads learned that these fakes could harm their health. Most remembered that fake cosmetics can contain ingredients like rat urine and human feces. And in an increasingly socially conscious era, three-quarters now understand that fake products may be made in factories with unsafe and unsanitary working conditions and using child labor.

We are looking to crime prevention practitioners like you to help us continue building on this Campaign’s momentum. You can help by spreading the word about the new and innovative Go For Real Dupe Detector Kit.

With the help of young consumers, parents, educators, law enforcement, community leaders, and the IP industry, the USPTO and NCPC will help protect teens and tweens by achieving our ultimate goal: to change consumer behavior.

The Go For Real Dupe Detector Kit is available now on the Go For Real Campaign page at www.ncpc.org/GoForReal.  Please make it part of your important work!
