UNITED KINGDOM / AGILITYPR.NEWS / September 03, 2025 / The Nabir Foundation has formally announced the commencement of construction on a landmark orphanage for women and girls in Sylhet, Bangladesh. The project, which will ultimately house and educate up to 300 orphaned girls, is a huge milestone in the Foundation’s mission to provide care, opportunity, and dignity to some of the most vulnerable members of society.
Land acquisition and site preparation are complete, with architectural and structural planning finalised. Initial construction is underway, and partnerships with community leaders, NGOs, and agricultural specialists have been secured to ensure long-term sustainability.
The next development stages will see the completion of core facilities including classrooms, dormitories, a dining hall, mosque, medical room, and agricultural infrastructure. Once operational, the orphanage will host its first intake of students (Years 1–3), alongside vocational training programmes designed to empower women with employable skills.
The Foundation has set a fundraising target of 1.5 crore BDT to complete construction and begin operations. Subject to full funding, the build and launch are projected to be completed within 12 to 15 months. For Founder Fareed Nabir, a former Young Entrepreneur of the Year with British-Bangladeshi heritage, the initiative has a deep personal significance.
“Growing up in the United Kingdom after losing my father at the age of seven, I was raised by my mother as a single parent. That experience taught me about sacrifice and hardship, but also about resilience and hope,” he said.
“Building this orphanage in Sylhet, close to my parents’ home village, is deeply personal. I have witnessed poverty first-hand in this community. This project allows us to give back - to provide shelter, education, healthcare, and opportunity to orphaned girls, while also offering homeless women meaningful roles in nurturing the next generation. Together, we can transform lives and build a brighter future.”
The Sylhet region was chosen due to its pressing need for structured support systems for orphaned girls and disadvantaged women. Alongside local leaders and NGOs, the Nabir Foundation is engaging agricultural advisors to establish self-sustaining food production systems, ensuring that the orphanage can support its residents while contributing positively to the wider community.
Support is also being drawn from the Bangladeshi diaspora and international philanthropic networks, with donors invited to contribute to the realisation of this lifechanging project.
