National Louis University and Universidad del Valle de México Announce Partnership in Double Degree and Certificates Program for Students in Mexico New international exchange program offers UVM students the chance to study in Chicago, the third largest city in the United States (Chicago: June 7, 2021) – Universidad del Valle de México and National Louis University announced the launch of the double degree program for a Bachelor of Science in Management (BSM), a program 100% online and in English, which will start July 5 in Mexico. The Certificates program will begin in September of 2021. The launch took place virtually on Friday, April 30 and was headed by the VP for Academic Affairs of UVM, Dr. Bernardo González-Aréchiga Ramírez-Wiella and Dr. Saib Othman, Provost and VP for Academic Affairs of National Louis University. Dr. Bernardo González-Aréchiga explained that prior to the crisis imposed by COVID, between 4 to 6 million students at the university level studied outside their country. In countries belonging to the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) 9% of the students come from countries other than the country in which they are studying. There are some countries such as Australia where the percentage reaches almost 26%, or Canada which is 18%. Regarding UVM, in 2019 its students took advantage of more than 160,000 international experiences. This means that some of them had more than one opportunity to go through these experiences, either abroad or without leaving Mexico, a possibility that has grown significantly with online courses in Mexico. This is possible through two strategies at UVM: study abroad and international online courses, which for example include trips, short courses, semesters, certificates and international accreditations, as well as a double degree. Meanwhile, Dr. Othman expressed that internationalization "is like adding colors to your life", since it offers you a multicultural professional experience, by having the opportunity to exchange experience and points of view with colleagues from different parts of the world. “International exchange programs allow students to learn different cultures and exchange points of view with colleagues from different parts of the world which broaden their horizon and give them a global business perspective,” said Dr. Saib Othman, Provost of National Louis University. “This partnership between National Louis and UVM will offer students the opportunity to develop strong skills in intercultural communication, language proficiency, and digital literacy and will prepare them to pursue successful careers at various international corporations. We welcome this partnership.” Mrs. Mary Anne Colin, Director of the International Office in UVM, also presented during the launch, explaining that in the current context with the COVID-19 pandemic and living in a globalized and connected world, students require the training of professionals with digital skills and competencies, multicultural thinking and speaking an additional language. She claimed that this academic program will strengthen the professional profile of the people who study it and will expand their employability possibilities, both in our country and abroad. The BSM is taught in an asynchronous format that allows UVM students to study in classes at their own pace, with students from Chicago and the rest of the United States. UVM students are NLU students and therefore will have access to several of the resources available from the University as part of the dual degree program. Mrs. Colin explained that the curriculum considers art appreciation, impact on the environment, sustainable business, professional communication, project management, legal and corporate areas, international issues, and ethics and social responsibility, among other subjects. The BSM is considered for four years of a Bachelor's degree and UVM students from any Campus can participate from their first semester if they are studying a degree program related to business or administration, as the subjects are similar in both study plans. This program additionally offers the possibility of choosing one of the five certifications: Criminal Justice, Leadership, General Psychology, Health Services Administration and Entrepreneurship. “Although it is a structure that is already complete and defined, at the end the student has the opportunity to choose from among these five certifications to specialize in a field of interest,” said Mrs. Colin. “Interested students will be able to register from May 5 to start classes on Monday July 5, for those who have not defined their admission to this program in this period, there will be a next entry in September. “Among the advantages of this academic program is the fact that having a degree from a university in the United States with recognition and experience in higher education will give young people the opportunity to have access to the TN visa for professionals,” Mrs. Colin added.
