Nationally-Acclaimed Photographer Robert Peel Puts Malmesbury on the Map

Robert Peel, whose dramatic photographs of Malmesbury have appeared on the front pages of national newspapers, is exhibiting a collection of panoramic photographs of Malmesbury. Running from the 2nd to the 21st November 2019 at the John Bowen Gallery, Malmesbury Town Hall, it is Peel’s first exhibition for two years.
The 28 limited edition large panoramic prints will be exhibited along with striking etched effect black and white prints on brushed aluminium as well as smaller framed prints, all of which can be purchased.
Peel’s photographs of Malmesbury taken from the surrounding hills and the banks of the River Avon, often with dramatic clouds and the silhouettes of grazing cattle, have appeared in all the national newspapers and even OK! Magazine.
“When I first moved to Malmesbury in 1990 I was surprised that such a historic and scenic town had little to offer in terms of tourist information and what did exist tended to have poor photographs; nothing that would draw visitors to the town,” Peel explains.
“It seemed Malmesbury was a hidden gem that people stumbled across if passing by. Something needed to be done so I started taking photographs and making them available free to the council, charities and local businesses.”
Perhaps surprisingly Peel is not a full-time photographer. For 27 years he has run a successful marketing company specialising in geographic information systems and mobile technology. Based in Malmesbury, the company’s clients are located as far afield as South Africa and the Czech Republic.
“Fortunately good pictures are vitally important for promoting products and services so a few days a month I might be found photographing trucks in a depot near Edinburgh, field service engineers at work in Crewe, or of someone scanning goods in a warehouse in Nottingham.
