Norville Opticians takes extra care of customers

West Country Entrepreneur, Jeff Cox, helps one retail business in Bristol take extra care of customers and staff by installing new handsfree AV Arm Pull Handle, designed to help stop the spread of viruses including COVID-19 by reducing hand to handle contact.

Norville Opticians in High Street, Keynsham, Bristol, has become the first opticians’ practice in the country to install one of the new hands-free arm pull handles. The Keynsham branch of Norville offers sight tests and a wide range of glasses and frames.

“The handle is ideal for us – we are a busy high street practice operating a Covid-safe practice and our staff are the only ones who touch the door,” practice manager Beth Bracey explains.

She adds, “We wear PPE aprons and gloves when interacting with customers, wash hands frequently, are appointment-only, and have sanitising gel stations throughout the practice.

“However, we wanted to go the extra mile and explore what other measures were available to keep staff and customers safe. We discovered the AV Arm Pull Handle, with this fitted to our front door we can now admit customers for their appointments just using our arms. This is in addition to our other measures and adds an extra layer of safety to our practice for our customers and staff.”

The Norville Group of practices in the South West were acquired by the Hakim Group in summer 2020, bringing investment to the group and securing its future.

This month (December 2020) at the Hakim Awards, the Keynsham practice led by Beth won the ‘Best Newcomer’ award.

The World Health Organisation considers that surfaces frequently touched by hands can be a significant transmitter of Covid-19. The handsfree handle adds a critical barrier of protection from transferring viruses such as Covid-19 and flu, as well as from bacteria and other germs.
