UNITED KINGDOM / AGILITYPR.NEWS / September 11, 2025 / Bangladesh is soon to welcome a major development in its intellectual and scientific landscape with the establishment of the Telesio-Galilei Academy of Science (TGAS). This internationally recognised institution, headquartered in Switzerland, is dedicated to fostering scientific creativity, intellectual dialogue, and the advancement of knowledge free from obscurantism.
The initiative in Bangladesh will be spearheaded by Fareed Nabir, who serves as Vice Chairman of the Academy. His leadership will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the values of TGAS - openness, rational discourse, and a commitment to scientific truth - are upheld.
Since its founding in 2007, TGAS has worked to promote science for the betterment of society, free of economic interests or political considerations. It has become known for its encouragement of research that may not always align with conventional thinking, but which has the potential to deepen understanding and challenge established paradigms.
Each year, the Academy honours scientists whose work demonstrates extraordinary merit, providing recognition and encouragement for their contributions to human knowledge.
The Bangladesh branch will provide a platform for local and regional scientists to engage with global peers. It will offer support for original research, host lectures and dialogues, and act as a bridge between Bangladeshi academia and the wider international scientific community.
Fareed Nabir, Vice Chairman of the Telesio-Galilei Academy of Science, said, “Science thrives when ideas are free to be tested, debated, and challenged. Bringing TGAS to Bangladesh is deeply important to me: not only will it nurture home-grown talent, but it will also connect our scientists to a global network of thinkers and innovators. I believe this endeavour will help place Bangladesh on the scientific map, contributing to discoveries that serve humanity as a whole.”
The focus will include supporting innovative projects across physics, chemistry, biology, and other scientific disciplines, with particular attention to groundbreaking ideas that may not yet receive support from traditional funding bodies.
Partnering with leading universities and scientific institutions worldwide, TGAS Bangladesh will ensure that research conducted locally is part of a global effort to advance understanding and solve humanity’s most pressing challenges.
