New supported living centre to open in Weston-super-Mare

Providing 20 jobs and 13 rooms

Specialist local mental health charity, Cintre, celebrates its 40th year of operation in 2020. It also celebrates opening its second supported living service in Weston-super-Mare in the last 12 months: Graham Court.

Graham Court is a brand new conversion of a beautiful Victorian house in Weston-super-Mare.

North Somerset Council will run the service and have asked Cintre to be the support provider and to manage the service for the initial five-year period.

The ambitious and comprehensive refurbishment is nearing completion and the 13-bed property should be ready for people to move into in January 2021.

As well as offering much-needed high quality accommodation for adults with complex mental health and learning difficulties, the new service is also offering a significant number of new job opportunities for the town.

Cintre is now recruiting for up to 20 new roles, offering employment opportunities for the town at a time when it is much needed. Graduates from Weston College with Level 3 qualifications in Health and Social Care, people starting their journey in mental healthcare, and experienced care professionals are encouraged to apply for the variety of roles available.

Service users moving into the newly-refurbished building will pay rent and utility bills to the landlord and will be able to benefit from Cintre’s on-site partnership-based support services within Graham Court as well as being able to access support and activities through Cintre Point, a community support centre based at The Stable Creative Hub in Weston-super-Mare.

Dr Claire Mould, CEO of Cintre, comments, “We were delighted to be entrusted with this new initiative from North Somerset Council, which will provide much needed additional supported living for people with complex mental health. This is a field in which Cintre has 40 years of experience and we use a unique ‘Continuum of Care’ approach so that individuals have exactly the right kind and amount of support that they need to enable them on their journey through life.”

North Somerset Council has already built a strong relationship with Cintre in Weston-super-Mare due to the management support Cintre provided to a residential service that was struggling and with a sudden home closure leading to the Homeward supported living centre earlier this year.

Councillor Mike Bell of North Somerset Council comments, “We are delighted that Graham Court opening will offer new employment opportunities at this difficult time, and that individuals with complex mental mealth and learning difficulties can have their needs met within this high-quality accommodation. We are delighted to work again with Cintre to fulfil the outcomes of our housing-with-support strategy.”

Graham Court is named after the late Graham Hepworth who was a State Registered Nurse (RNLD) for over 40 years. Graham managed a number of nursing homes caring for people with learning disabilities in the district and was highly respected in the area.
