RARE WINES DONATED BY NEWPORT BEACH COUPLE FOR 13TH KEEP THE PROMISE BENEFIT
One of The Region’s Hottest Wine Tasting Event to Benefit Under-Served Youth From Low-income Communities
SANTA ANA, Calif. (July 1, 2019) — At one of Orange County’s premier wine tasting benefits, The Wooden Floor, a creative youth development nonprofit organization, invites guests for a unique experience to taste the world’s top 1-3% wines while supporting under-served youth from low-income communities at the 13th Annual Keep The Promise Wine Tasting Benefit. Since 2007, the organization partners with long-time supporters and benefit founders John and Janice Markley, who collect and donate 12 of the world’s rarest wines, with an overall average rating of 97+ points, from regions such as France, Italy, Spain, Germany and Portugal as well as California and Washington.
At the 2018 Keep The Promise Benefit, The Wooden Floor broke its own record by grossing nearly $410,000 for the organization, raising almost $3 million in gifts throughout the benefit’s 12-year history. By contributing to the organization’s goal to transform the lives of young people through the power of dance and access to higher education, students gain access to academic support, college and career readiness, and family services. Due to ongoing support, The Wooden Floor has a 100 percent success rate—where all senior students since 2005 have graduated high school on time and immediately enrolled in higher education, with the Class of 2019 being its 15th consecutive graduating class.
As guests sample rare wines at the benefit, they enjoy listening to success stories from students, and can also participate in activities for select prizes, including the crowd-favorite blind tasting competition, Opportunity Drawings, and a silent auction. In previous Opportunity Drawings, guests have won luxurious gifts including a Hermès gift basket filled with gorgeous accessories valued at over $3,000 and a $2,500 shopping spree at South Coast Plaza. Previous silent auction items included: a four-night stay at a luxury cabin in Promontory, Utah; a private five-course wine dinner for 10; as well as sports and arts experiences.
Big Canyon Master Sommelier, Steven Poe, works diligently to perfectly pair the outstanding wines with signature small plates. Previous wines served at the event include the 100 point 2011 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Le Pavillon from Rhone, France, which is valued at $350 per bottle, and the 99 point 2012 Realm The Bard Proprietary Red Wine from Napa Valley, CA, valued at $300 per bottle.
