The Rainwater Fountain, Matyas Barak, Interior Design (MA) - RCA2020 Show One

The Rainwater Fountain tackles water scarcity in high-density urban areas by making rainwater drinkable while creating an arresting space. Rainwater is collected, filtered and disinfected by selected materials which ensure its drinkability. It explores how materials can be used to harvest rainwater and how water and materials can be combined to create an eye-catching space where people can take a moment, pause, and enjoy a refreshing drink.

Similies, Isabel Alonso, Design Products (MA) - RCA2020 Show One

Similes is a lighting collection that aims to communicate glassblowing in a new way for social and cultural benefit. Based on an artisan-designer collaboration and ethnographic research, the glassblowers’ tools and actions are captured in three lamps operated by mimicking the movements used to craft them. They resemble a blowpipe with molten glass and light up when twisted or turned. These lights work to illustrate glassblowing, prompt conversations about it and, ultimately, stimulate further interest in it.

Tripus, Matyas Barak, Interior Design (MA) - RCA2020 Show One

Tripus creates a new kind of landscape in a public space. It helps individuals maintain their personal space. Have a seat on the Tripus and let it protect your personal space with its tentacles, you might even see flowers grow from them!

The Four-Leaf Clover Farm Shop, Nina Coulson, Contemporary Art Practice: Public Sphere - RCA2020 Show One

The Four-Leaf Clover Farm Shop features the distribution of over 4000 Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat, pressed four-leaf clover leaves in zip bags (dimensions: 8x6cm) that were grown by the artist as part of an ongoing long-term project finding, growing and dispersing four leaf clovers internationally. The farm shop will operate to the public via an honesty-box/pay point system and the intention is to distribute the entire harvest during the duration of the show.

Ornithanthropon 1480/2020, Arieh Frosh, Contemporary Art Practice (MA) - RCA2020 Show Two

Frosh uses writing, 3D computer animation, motorised sculptures, and film to form narrative-based projects. Ornithanthropon revisits ideas of hybridity, interspecies and technological thinking to create a series of lo-fi animatronics. An accompanying text will reflect on poor decision-making processes, alongside pieced-together drawings by Ulisse Aldrovandi, among others.

How May I Serve You, José García Oliva, Visual Communication (MA) - RCA2020 Show Two

How May I Serve You aims to humanise and reveal the experiences of those individuals hidden behind calls and online chats. The work takes place through open online conversations between customer service agents based in Pakistan, outsourced by the UK, and an online UK-based audience. This participatory performance occurred in the middle of the pandemic when call centre agents were key workers to keep the current system running. A book containing these conversations will be published on 31 May with the profits going to Malik and Saadia to start a union for call centre agents in Pakistan.
