Repair Café Lambeth Celebrates Two Years of Fixing Items, Connecting People, and Fighting Waste

UNITED KINGDOM / AGILITYPR.NEWS / May 06, 2025 / On Saturday 7 June 2025, Repair Café Lambeth will celebrate its second anniversary - marking two incredible years of community-powered repairs, climate action, and connection in the heart of Lambeth.

Since opening its doors in 2023, Repair Café Lambeth has prevented 1,418kg of waste from going to landfill and saved 12,374 kg of CO₂ emissions by helping residents repair everything - from toasters and trousers to bikes and laptops. You name it, they fixed it!

With an impressive 91% repair success rate, the initiative has quickly become an incredible example of sustainability and community spirit. At its core is a massive network of over 300 skilled volunteer repairers - the largest volunteer force in the borough - offering their expertise and time to help neighbours extend the life of everyday items.

But Repair Café Lambeth is more than a place to fix broken things: it’s become a vibrant hub where people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds come together - sharing skills, stories, and laughter over sewing machines and soldering irons as they give new life to old items.

"Yesterday, they were strangers who would have walked past each other on the street,” said Olga Osuch, Manager of Repair Café Lambeth. “Today, they’re high fiving over a restored lamp or a repaired radio. That’s the power of community: fixing things and building bonds at the same time.”

The café’s impact isn’t limited to the workbench. In October 2024, it launched the inaugural Lambeth Climate Day, a landmark event that brought together 400 attendees, 17 funders, and 39 local environmental groups at Lambeth Town Hall. The day included a Lambeth Net Zero Network pitch competition, where 12 organisations competed for a £2,500 climate innovation prize, sparking new collaborations and climate action across the borough.

As Repair Café Lambeth enters its third year, the team is energised and ready to expand their impact. Plans for the future include a South London climate organisation co-working hub, community training sessions, and increased access to tools and repair knowledge for all.

The 2nd anniversary celebration on 7 June promises to be a joyful occasion open to all, with music, workshops, and - of course - plenty of repairs.
