Research and Insights results in new Respiratory Show at the NEC

The NEC Group has been managing high profile venues, including the NEC, Arena Birmingham and the ICC, for over 40 years but the organisation has always offered way more than just space to rent. Aside from hugely successful supporting businesses including The Ticket Factory and award winning caterer, Amadeus, the NEC Group’s in house Business Intelligence and Analytics team is also adding massive value to the organisation and its customers.

Next month, as a result of research led by the NEC Group’s Market Intelligence Manager, Marc Aston, a brand new interactive event, The Respiratory Show, will be launched at the NEC by Closer Still Media.

Speaking about how this new event has become a reality Marc said: “At the NEC we already host a number of health-related trade shows but through my research I discovered that 115,000 people each year die from a respiratory illness and this number is growing. By comparison the number of deaths from heart disease is actually declining by around 15%. My research evidence pointed to the positive contribution an interactive exhibition could make to bring audiences together, including health professionals, pharmaceutical companies and equipment manufacturers. I saw an opportunity to create more than just an exhibition. I felt that a dedicated respiratory show could act as an opportunity to encourage skills swaps and knowledge transfer with real learning and sharing experiences, with the aim of raising the profile and awareness of research, training and screening for respiratory conditions.

“Small events catering for specific professions already exist and there is a larger annual respiratory conference in Europe but I identified a gap in the market for a multifaceted respiratory health focused event in the UK. We presented our research findings to CloserStill Media, a market leading business exhibitions organisation specialising in the healthcare and technology sectors. The NEC has worked with CloserStill for a number of years on a range of healthcare shows and we knew that they had excellent connections and strong research capabilities of their own. We felt that they would be able to turn the concept into a reality. I’m thrilled that we’re now less than a month away from the first ever Respiratory Show and can’t wait to see it in action on the opening day!”

Executive Director of all Healthcare & Medical events at CloserStill Media Matt Butler – “When the NEC got in touch with us about a new idea we were really keen to see what they had to say and liked the idea of working collaboratively to develop a new show. The respiratory proposal really piqued our interest and upon further research of our own, we were confident that Marc and the NEC Group Business Intelligence team had identified a commercially viable opportunity for Closer Still Media to launch.

“By coming to us with this proposal the NEC Group is offering something unique in the Industry, whilst strengthening our relationship with them as a valuable business partner. They’re certainly more than just a venue and we really value the unique skills and knowledge they can offer. We will certainly be interested in working with the NEC Group research team again for future event ideas!”

The Respiratory Show will open its doors for the first time on 9 October 2019 alongside Best Practice and Best Practice in Nursing and will offer a stimulating conference programme delivered by a range of respiratory experts across primary and secondary care settings. There will be a number of hands-on courses for delegates to get to grip with the latest techniques on a number of key issues including spirometry, inhaler techniques, use of peak flows, respiratory clinical assessment skills, nebuliser use, and performing chest auscultation and the different lung sounds.

The event is supported by the strongest database of NHS clinicians and healthcare professionals working in respiratory care and is free for NHS, social care, public sector or qualified healthcare professionals.
