SGS Details Updated Mandatory National Standard for Jewelry in China

BAAR, SWITZERLAND / AGILITYPR.NEWS / June 26, 2026 / SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 085.26, highlighting China’s update of safety requirements for jewelry.

GB 28480-2026 ‘Jewelry safety technical requirements’ was published by China’s State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of China in March 2026.

Outlining safety requirements for adult and children’s jewelry, GB 28480-2026 covers methods and specifications for physical, mechanical and chemical properties, as well as labeling and marking criteria.

Due for implementation on April 1, 2027, GB 28480-2026 replaces GB 28480-2012 ‘Adornment – Provision for limit of baneful elements’. The new standard will affect stakeholders across the adult and children’s jewelry supply chain, including manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers operating in the Chinese market.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 085.26 includes two useful tables with further information about GB 28480-2026 , including highlights and technical requirements.

Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 085.26 for more details.
