BAAR, SWITZERLAND / AGILITYPR.NEWS / July 27, 2026 / SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 096.26, highlighting updated candle fire safety requirements published in ASTM F2417-26.
Published by ASTM International, the revised standard specification establishes minimum safety requirements for candles and candle ensembles to provide a reasonable degree of safety during normal use. These measures are intended to help improve consumer safety and reduce the risk of fires, deaths and injuries.
Key changes in the standard include added, expanded and revised definitions, an update to Section 4.7, new requirements for embeds and containers and the addition of Appendix X.5.
Stakeholders involved in the design, manufacture, testing, sourcing, importation and retail sale of candle products may be affected by the changes. ASTM F2417-26 is a voluntary industry standard and therefore does not have an effective mandatory date.
SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 096.26 includes further information about the changes included in F2417-26 and a link to purchase a copy of the standard.
