BAAR, SWITZERLAND / AGILITYPR.NEWS / June 26, 2026 / SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 084.26, summarizing Luxembourg’s publication of revised rules on migration limits for lead and cadmium in food contact ceramics.
The Grand-Ducal Regulation of May 19, 2026, amends Grand-Ducal Regulation of February 1985 concerning ceramic articles intended to come into contact with food. As well as introducing stricter migration limits for lead and cadmium, the Regulation contains expanded provisions allowing economic operators to consider specific factors when placing ceramic articles on the market.
Stakeholders across the Luxembourg food contact ceramic materials and articles supply chain, including manufacturers, importers, retailers and other intermediaries, are affected by the amendment, which became effective on May 29, 2026. There has also been a recent update to the rules on food contact ceramics in the Netherlands.
SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 084.26 provides further information about the new Regulation, including a helpful table clarifying ceramic article categories and their respective limits.
Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 084.26 for more details.
