SGS Summarizes Strengthened EU Specifications for HBCDD Under the POP Recast Regulation

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND / AGILITYPR.NEWS / October 14, 2024 / SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published details of revised hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD) specifications under the European Union’s (EU) persistent organic pollutants legislation, the POP Recast Regulation (EU) 2019/1021.

HBCDD is a flame retardant found in many consumer items, including upholstery and textiles, as well as in electric and electronic equipment.

The EU Commission’s Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/2555 of March 21, 2024, published on September 27, 2024, revises the POP Recast Regulation, amending the requirements for HBCDD. The new law will become effective on October 17, 2024.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulations that may impact their business. SafeGuardS 148.24 provides a useful table detailing exemptions included in Regulation (EU) 2024/2555.
